Reveals in the Haunted Mansion or: How it Took Seeing an Effect Broken to Realize That I Didn’t Like it.

  1. Brilliant explanation as to why the effect doesn’t work well for the attraction in the grand picture. I love reading in-depth analyzations of Disney attractions. Some changes, even if shiny, feel out of place and generally aren’t for the better. I think we see a lot of this happening right now at the HM in the Magic Kingdom, where the shoehorning of fancy new effects and interactive queues feel incompatible with their environments and with the story that the attraction is laid out to tell.

    1. Thanks! I think it’s sometimes east to forget how much design effort went into some of these older attractions, and things we may take for granted were actually important design choices. I agree that the recent changes made to Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion have been unfortunate. In many ways, the Florida version is the definitive iteration of the attraction, but it feels like WDI is trying their hardest to ruin it.
